Workers at Zhejiang Orient Gene Biotech Co Ltd are busy packing COVID-19 nucleic acid test kits, which are set to be shipped to countries such as the United States, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy.

Based in Anji county, Huzhou, the company has been approved by the National Medical Product Administration to produce COVID-19 nucleic acid test kits, making it the first company in the city and the second in Zhejiang to obtain the qualification.

Fang Xiaoliang, president of the company, said that the company's net profits stood at 463 million yuan ($67.1 million) in the first half of this year, an increase of 1,294.1 percent year-on-year.

Orient Gene's success is partly due to local authorities' efforts to bring in high-profile professionals to improve technical innovation over the past years.

The city has established a number of "talent enclaves"- which allows businesses registered in Huzhou to operate in other cities including Hangzhou, Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Jing Lei, founder of Zhejiang Hi Convenience Network Technology Co Ltd, registered his company in Changxing district, but the company is located in Hangzhou. "The enclave allows us to enjoy Huzhou's preferential policies as well as Hangzhou’s market and resources."

The city is now home to 13 such talent enclaves accommodating 100 high-end talent projects, with a combined floorage of 85,000 square meters.

In addition, Huzhou has introduced 69,000 college students and 694 high-end professionals from home and abroad so far this year, official data show.
