Typhoon-hit power supply completely back on line

(ezhejiang.gov.cn) Updated : 2020-08-07

As of 00:30 on Aug 6, power distribution across Zhejiang province, which had been partly interrupted by Typhoon Hagupit a few days previously, was completely restored, following 45 hours of continuous work by the province's 7,000 electricians.

Typhoon Hagupit made landfall in the coastal region of Yueqing city in Zhejiang province early in the morning of Aug 4 and hit the province's power grid, causing the suspension of 584 power transmission lines and power cuts to nearly two million households.

The hardest-hit was Yueqing city, where the electricity supply in a dozen townships was severely damaged. The daily power consumption in Yueqing rapidly plummeted to 17 percent of its usual level.

State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co instantly entered a state of emergency, mobilizing logistics and human resources over the entire province to rescue the typhoon-hit regions. A total of 16,494 workers and 5,738 vehicles were employed in the emergency reparation work.

Big data technologies played a vital role in the emergency repair of power systems. State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co immediately set up an emergency command center for power restoration, which made highly efficient decisions on the basis of real-time data transmitted from repair scenes and accurate intelligence delivered by big data analysis.
