Forum focuses on scientific, technological development in YRD

The 17th Yangtze River Delta Science and Technology Forum commenced in Huzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 29, local media reported.

The two-day event was attended by government officials from the provinces of Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Anhui as well as Shanghai municipality and nearly 30 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chinese Academy of Sciences. 

Zhou Guohui, vice chairman of the CPPCC Zhejiang Provincial Committee, called for concerted efforts to deepen regional cooperation in scientific and technological innovation so as to fuel the development of the delta into a national innovation hub and the main engine behind the country's transformative development.

Zhejiang aspires to work with other provinces and cities to facilitate industrial integration and technical innovation so as to promote the integrated development of the delta, he added.

Ma Xiaohui, secretary of the CPC Huzhou Municipal Committee, said Huzhou needs scientific and technological innovation more than ever, expressing hope that the forum will help attract more scientific and technological projects and talent to the city. 

The platform is designed to boost academic exchange, facilitate the sharing of scientific and technological resources and display innovation achievements in the delta. 

In addition, six sub-forums on topics such as new energy, resource utilization, ecological conservation, disaster relief and biomedicine were also staged on the sidelines of the main forum.
