East China's Zhejiang province launched a series of events on Oct 17 – marking the country's seventh National Poverty Relief Day, according to local officials.

They kicked off in Jingning She autonomous county, administered by the city of Lishui, in Zhejiang province.

During the launch ceremony, a video of Zhejiang's poverty alleviation achievements was played, showing the overall effect of the province's  work in the field since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012.

Su Guoxia, an official from the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, praised the province.

Su said during the ceremony that since the beginning of the century, Zhejiang had made great efforts to innovate in tackling poverty and had become one of the provinces with the smallest income gaps between urban and rural areas in China.

"Zhejiang has embarked on a road to poverty reduction with its own characteristics," Su added.
