Hangzhou High-Tech Zone, one of China's first national high-tech development zones, was set up in Binjiang district in 1990 and has been an innovation powerhouse and an investment hotbed ever since.

The zone, which occupies an area of over 70 square kilometers, boasts a regional GDP of around 160 billion yuan ($23.87 billion) and a per capita GDP of 376,000 yuan. Over the past 30 years, a total of 57 listed companies were incubated.

Last year, the zone's administrative committee proposed a development plan, announcing that by 2035, it will be home to a world-class business environment empowered by digital economy and the City Brain system, a smart city governance platform integrating the use of big data, cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Despite the global economic downturn in the first half of 2020, Hangzhou High-Tech Zone saw a 7-percent growth in GDP and a 15.5-percent growth in industrial added value compared with the same period last year.
