The government of Zhejiang province in East China and the Beijing-headquartered Chinese Academy of Sciences signed a framework cooperation agreement in the national capital on Oct 29, to further develop the Zhejiang Lab.

The Zhejiang Lab is a research institute co-founded in the province's capital of Hangzhou in 2017 by the province's government, Zhejiang University and tech giant Alibaba Group.

Its research priorities are intelligent perception, intelligent networks, intelligent computing and intelligent systems.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Yuan Jiajun, Party secretary of Zhejiang province, Zheng Shanjie, governor of Zhejiang province and Bai Chunli, president of CAS.

Yuan said that Zhejiang Lab has retained its goal of becoming a national-level laboratory since its foundation.

He called for more cooperation between Zhejiang's authorities and the CAS, to further develop the Zhejiang Lab into a national research platform for artificial computing.

This, he said, would make it of strategic significance to the country's application of digital and intelligent technologies.

Bai said that the CAS has long had a history of fruitful cooperation with Zhejiang province and that it would take advantage of the further development of the Zhejiang Lab as a new opportunity to deepen cooperation between the two sides.
