Six projects, including No 8 Berth, recently passed their final tests before entering service at the Meishan Container Wharf in Ningbo Zhoushan Port, in East China's Zhejiang province on Nov 2, according to local media reports.

The completion of No 8 Berth, capable of handling 150,000 metric ton container vessels, means that the Meishan wharf currently has eight berths for vessels over 100,000 tons.

The Meishan wharf will eventually see the completion of 10 berths. When they are all in service, it is projected to handle more than 10 million TEUs – twenty-foot equivalent units of containers – each year, making it the fourth wharf in the world to reach that capacity.

Statistics show that overall, in Ningbo Zhoushan Port there are currently 114 berths handling vessels above 10,000 tons and 32 berths handling vessels above 100,000 tons.

It became the world's only port to exceed 1.1 billion tons in cargo throughput in 2019. That achievement meant it has now topped port throughput volumes globally for 11 successive years.
