The Zhoushan Islands Triathlon 2020 took place on Nov 8 in Zhujiajian, a 4A-level scenic spot in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported.

Eight hundred people signed up for the event, and were divided into seven groups: male's full and half distance, female's full and half distance, relay group, male youth group, and female youth group.

The race is 51.5 kilometers in length and includes a 1.5-km swimming section, a 40-km bicycling section, and a 10-km running section.

After a fierce competition, Peter, a German from Shanghai, won the male's full distance event with a time of 1 hour, 56 minutes and 12 seconds, the only participant finishing the full race within two hours.

"I came to Zhoushan 10 years ago and the city leaves me with a better impression this time," said Peter after the race. He has participated in triathlons in many Chinese cities.

To provide a better experience and service, nearly 300 students from a local vocational school volunteered to guide participants along the route, distribute supplies and keep order.

Eight ambulances, six automated external defibrillators (AED) and seven medical stations were positioned at the scene to guarantee participants' safety.

Zhujiajian, located in the southeastern area of the Zhoushan Islands, is the fifth largest island among the archipelago's 1,390 islands with a total area of 74 square km. It is also one of the three most popular scenic spots in Zhoushan.
