Quzhou foreign trade experiences rapid growth in Jan, Feb

Foreign trade in the prefecture-level city of Quzhou – in East China's Zhejiang province – reportedly experience rapid growth in the first two months of the current year, with imports and exports surging 39.5 percent year-on-year in January and February to 6.41 billion yuan ($981 million).

Statistics showed that exports hit 3.95 billion yuan, up 44.9 percent year-on-year, while imports were worth 2.46 billion yuan, up 30.5 percent in a performance that was 6.4 percentage points higher than the province's average.

In terms of exports, mechanical, electrical and high-tech products continued to play a key role in the economy's growth while in terms of imports, mechanical and electrical products increased across the board.

With the worldwide use of the COVID-19 vaccine, the global economies have reportedly experienced a clear recovery trend and the import and export trade has continued to improve.

From January to February this year, Brazil, the United States and South Korea were the top three markets for Quzhou, with an import and export value of 2.25 billion yuan, accounting for 35 percent of the city's total foreign trade.

Private enterprises were the main driver behind the growth in foreign trade during the period.

Imports and exports by private companies in the two months reached 5.32 billion yuan, up 46.2 percent year-on-year. They accounted for 83 percent of the city's total foreign trade and were responsible for 36.5 percentage points of Quzhou's import and export growth in January and February.
