The Fourth Sports Games of Zhejiang Province – the highest level and biggest sports meet in Zhejiang Province in East China – was officially opened in Quzhou city on the morning of April 14, according to local media reports.

The first competition – the tug-of-war – was held at the Quzhou College of Technology, with the event featuring five categories: the group men's 640 kilogram, women's 540 kg, mixed 600 kg and the Industry Sports Association group men's 640 kg and women's 540 kg.

It attracted 11 cities representative teams and three industry system representative teams of more than 320 athletes, team leaders and coaches.

"The reason why the competition committee chose the tug-of-war as the first game, is that as the team event it can better show the athletes' unity and fighting spirit," said an official from the city's sports bureau.
