Zhejiang weightlifter Shi Zhiyong won all three sections, the snatch, the jerk, and their total, in the men's 73 kg event at the Asian Weightlifting Championships in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan, on April 21.

Shi lifted 169 kg in the snatch and 194 kg in the jerk for a total of 363 kg. His performance in the snatch broke the world record of 168 kg that he set at the 2019 Asian Weightlifting Championships . His total performance at the event was equal to the world record, which he had also previously set.

Shi was the champion in the men's 69 kg event at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. He topped all three sections in the men's 73 kg event at both the 2018 and the 2019 World Weightlifting Championships.

Due to a waist injury and then the COVID-19 pandemic, Shi was unable to compete for almost a year. However, he completed his recovery and returned to competition at the beginning of this year.
