Highlights of Quzhou's population data

The city of Quzhou's permanent residential population currently stands at 2.28 million, an appreciable increase of 153,523 on the total in 2010, according to the Quzhou Daily, which gathered its findings from the seventh national population census.

The latest numbers show that the average family household in Quzhou has 2.33 persons, down 0.26 persons from 2010. The downsizing in family scale is believed to be mainly due to the increase of immigrant families and the growing trend of young people moving out after their marriage.

The gender ratio of males to females among the city's permanent residents is now 104.26:100. The ratio in 2010 was 104.09:100.

The Kecheng district becomes the region with the largest population – 528,874 – in the city.

The second biggest population center is Jiangshan with 494,412, followed by Qujiang district on 373,920, Longyou county with 360,229, Changshan county at 259,966 and Kaihua county with a total of  258,810.

Of the city's permanent residents, 335,773, or 14.75 percent, are aged below 14 – while 579,152, or 25.44 percent, are aged above 60. The aging society is attributed to the China's constantly increasing lifespan and its relatively low fertility rate over the past decade.

Additionally, among the city's permanent residents, 281,487 have college degrees or higher qualifications.

Of the population enumerated, 1.31 million are urban residents, accounting for 57.57 percent of the total and 965,686 are rural residents, accounting for 42.43 percent.
