East China's Zhejiang province will host cultural events in the provincial capital of Hangzhou on June 1 to mark the 10th anniversary of the first full display of the ancient painting Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, in Taipei, announced Zhu Fenglian, a spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, at a news conference on May 26.

Created by the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) artist Huang Gongwang (1269-1354), Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains is considered one of China's greatest surviving ancient paintings. The masterpiece depicts the natural landscape of the Fuchun Mountains, which are located southwest of today's Hangzhou and along the northern bank of the Fuchun River.

The 6.91-meter-long painting was torn in two in the 17th century. The longer section, known as The Master Wuyong Scroll, was taken to Taiwan in 1949 and has since been kept in the Taipei Palace Museum, while the shorter section, known as The Remaining Mountain, has been kept in the Zhejiang Provincial Museum on the Chinese mainaldn since the 1950s.

On June 1, 2011, the two sections were displayed in the Taipei Palace Museum following 369 years of separation. The event marked a milestone in cross-Straits cultural exchanges.

More than 350 guests from Taiwan and the Chinese mainland will attend the 10th anniversary event.

Zhu expressed hope that the occasion will remind cross-Straits youth of their common mission of promoting traditional Chinese culture and encourage more Taiwan compatriots to participate in the economic development of the Chinese mainland and contribute to national rejuvenation.

Zhejiang has become one of Taiwan's most favored investment destinations on the Chinese mainland. Over the past decade, 2,134 Taiwan-funded enterprises with a combined investment value of $14 billion have been established in Zhejiang.
