Zhejiang to assist seniors in digital age

Zhejiang province in East China recently released a plan to help senior citizens learn how to use intelligent technologies and adapt to the digital age.

The plan stipulates the introduction of public services related to healthcare and travel, making it easier for senior citizens to use smart devices.

In addition, both online and offline services will be made accessible. It is convenient for young people to use smartphone apps to make appointments, do pre-checks, and make payments, but many seniors do not have smartphones or are not in the habit of using them in such a way.

According to the plan, community workers and volunteers will be encouraged to provide door-to-door services for senior citizens, helping them buy goods, make hospital appointments, and book housekeeping services online.

Ride-hailing services, commonly provided on apps, will be accessible through phone calls as well.

By the end of 2022, Zhejiang aims to narrow the "digital gap" between young people and seniors by making technologies more accessible to the elderly and providing efficient and prompt services for those who lag in digital literacy.
