Conservation push makes Quzhou greener

The government of Zhejiang – the province, which is located in East China – recently released the assessment results for the soil and water conservation of its 11 cities in 2020 and Quzhou was ranked as "excellent", according to local media reports on Aug 18.  

From 2016 to 2020, the comprehensive program for the conservation of soil and water in Quzhou covered 206.16 square kilometers. As a result, a cumulative total of 297.43 sq km of soil and water controls in the city and its regions were put in place.  

In 2016, the total area of soil erosion in the city was estimated at 911.22 sq km, which was reduced to 677.14 sq km in 2020, a decrease of 233.98 sq km in five years.

As a result, the proportion of soil erosion in the region's total land area decreased from 10.3 percent in 2016 to 7.65 percent in 2020.
