Siqiao Reservoir in Quzhou's Keqiao district recently broke ground, local media reported.

The reservoir will be mainly used for flood control, irrigation, power generation and ecological conservation.

With an investment of about 2.35 billion yuan ($361.5 million), the reservoir will have a total storage capacity of 35.89 million cubic meters and take roughly 53 months to build.

The project received approval from the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission in July and a call for bids was launched a month later.

The reservoir will not only ensure the supply of water required for downstream agricultural production, but will also greatly enhance the landscape design of surrounding rivers, according to a head official from the Keqiao water conservancy bureau.
