In 2021, the income of residents of Longyou, a county in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, increased by 13.1 percent over the previous year, the largest increase rate among 26 mountainous counties in Zhejiang.

Longyou has been ramping up efforts to narrow the development gap among different regions and increase local incomes by integrating resources and improving the industrial chain.

"We take the vacant houses to buy shares, and can get an annual bonus of 20,000 yuan ($3,156.56)," said a resident of Pushan village. To utilize idle resources, Zhanjia town built a parent-child amusement park, which offers Pushan village a bonus of 200,000 yuan and 20 percent of net profits from cooperative income.

In addition, Longyou introduced high-quality enterprises to foster a high-end manufacturing industry cluster, which provides more job opportunities for farmers.

So far, 35,000 farmers in Longyou have moved to the city. "Most of them found jobs in nearby industrial parks, and their per capita annual income has increased by more than 4,000 yuan. Another 1,700 farmers are engaged in secondary and tertiary industries, with an annual per capita income of nearly 70,000 yuan," said Lao Zhiping, director of the Longyou agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
