Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province set up a carbon account for the enterprises in the city. The account is a digital processing tool based on data related to new energy consumption and carbon emission analysis and is intended to help achieve peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality.

Quzhou is a high-carbon industrial zone, with the carbon emission intensity per ten thousand yuan GDP being 2.17 times higher than the provincial average. Industrial and energy carbon emissions account for more than 90 percent of the city's total.

Through the energy collector and other tools installed on the production line of the enterprise, the energy consumption data of each enterprise, such as electricity, natural gas and steam, are collected and the carbon account will create an energy consumption figure for each energy consumer, providing a basis for energy consumption management and industrial adjustment.

To date, 2,392 industrial enterprises, 94 energy enterprises, 55 transportation enterprises, 109 construction entities, 845 agricultural entities and 2.33 million residential accounts have been connected to carbon accounts.

Relying on energy consumption acquisition equipment, the frequency of carbon data collection has been shortened from one year to 15 minutes, and the city's carbon emission intensity is expected to drop by 19 percent from 2021-2025, according to the data.

In addition, according to the residential carbon accounts, 13,400 metric tons of household waste in Kecheng district, Quzhou has been recycled, realizing a carbon emission reduction of 18,100 tons.
