Authorities in East China's Zhejiang province have released a working plan on the national highway network to promote common prosperity and the high-quality development of regional highway networks.

According to the plan, the number of national expressways in Zhejiang province will be increased from 18 to 22, and the number of ordinary national roads will be increased from 15 to 19.

The plan is aimed at creating efficient road networks between Zhejiang and neighboring provinces (cities) such as Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi and Fujian.

In addition, Zhejiang is seeking to build three one-hour-traffic circles, including one connecting the capital city Hangzhou with the other 10 prefecture-level cities and one connecting each prefecture-level city with county-level cities, counties, districts under its administration. By 2025, the population coverage rate of the three one-hour traffic circles is expected to be more than 95 percent.

Meanwhile, authorities will ensure all 26 counties in Zhejiang's mountainous areas have access to national expressways and national roads.

Zhejiang province will also promote the construction of national highways through digital reforms, implement the intelligent transformation of existing expressways and build a 1,000-kilometer intelligent expressway ring around the Hangzhou Bay.
