​Grapefruit industry creates wealth for Changshan residents

Five villages in Baishi town, Changshan county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, cooperated with Zhejiang Youxianggu Investment Management Co Ltd to develop a grapefruit industry and realize common prosperity.

Under the guidance of Youxianggu, the five villages transferred over 2,800 mu (186.87 hectares) of land to build a grapefruit base.

In addition, Youxianggu has invested 143 million yuan ($20.4 million) to build plantations, a production and research center and a tourist center. The villages have leveraged their idle plants and invested 3.5 million yuan to establish a grapefruit cold chain storage center and fruit drying ground.

Since the first half of 2022, the collective income of the five villages has increased by more than 160 percent year-on-year, three orchards have been built and more than 170 villagers in nearby villages and neighboring provinces have found jobs, including more than 30 low-income farmers. The villagers' incomes have increased by more than 6.5 million yuan.

In the first half of this year, sales of products under the brand "Youxianggu" reached 135 million yuan, increasing the deep processing output value of the Changshan traditional grapefruit industry by 10.39 percent year-on-year.
