An opening ceremony for the Longyao kiln in Guangcun village, Donghua sub-district, Longyou county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, was held on Nov 12, according to local media reports.

During the ceremony, nearly 2,600 ceramic products fired in the Longyao kiln since Nov 8 were taken out of the kiln.

Guancun village was historically a haven for the porcelain industry, and it was also the first place to fire opalescent glazes in China.

The reopening of the Longyao kiln represents a new start and has awakened the intangible cultural heritage of the ancient kiln, and increased its fame, said Weng Chenghua, inheritor of Quzhou opaque glaze firing technology.

Weng added that he has studied porcelain making technology for many years and he hopes to revive the Longyou porcelain making industry.

According to Luo Lu, Party chief of Donghua sub-district, in the future the sub-district will build a kiln culture workshop and strive to expand the kiln's industrial chain, creating more wealth for the place.
