​Rice candy production creates jobs for Changshan locals

With the approach of Spring Festival, rice candy, or Mitang in Chinese, produced by Siweizhai Food Company, has enjoyed strong sales in Changshan county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province.

Siweizhai Food Company in Gongshan village, Tonggong Township, Changshan county specializes in producing rice candy.

"The factory's daily output value is about 60,000 yuan ($8,604), and the volume of daily output can reach 3,500 kilograms. Orders are mainly from Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shanghai, but also Yunnan and Xinjiang," said Lin Chusi, a higher-up at the company.

Siweizhai Food Company employs nearly 20 workers to deal with surging orders. These workers are residents of Gongshan village or neighboring villages. Their average monthly income is about 5,000 yuan.

"I've been working here for 13 years, mainly responsible for mixing materials in the processing workshop. My monthly income is about 6,000 yuan," said Wang Shuping, a resident of Gongshan village.

Xu Jincan started working at the company in 2018. The company allows her to earn money near home while taking care of her family. Xu can now earn 60,000 yuan a year.

Siweizhai Food Company produces more than a dozen kinds of rice candy as well as sesame cakes. In 2021, its annual output value was about 7 million yuan.

Next, the company will further improve its product formula to sell its special rice candy across the country and create more jobs for villagers.
