Strategic advantages
◎Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe rail line
The Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe rail line is the world's longest international rail line and passes through the most countries. Its total length is 13,052 km. It takes cargo from eight Chinese provinces and cities such as Zhejiang, Shanghai and Guangdong, covering nearly 2,000 varieties of China-made small commodities, to 34 countries in nine directions such as Central Asia, Spain, Russia and the United Kingdom. Along the line, five distribution centers, eight overseas warehouses, and an overseas branch of Warsaw Small Commodity City have been built.
Yiwu stands at the starting point of the Yiwu-Xinjiang-Europe rail line. On its west side is the vigorous Silk Road Economic Belt. On its south side is the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. And on its north side is the rising China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is a significant cross-border strategy that aims to promote development via cooperation and maintain stability via development. The total population of countries along the Silk Road economic belt exceeds 3 billion. The market size and potential are unprecedented. Central Eurasia plays a significant and unique role in the global economy and politics. Yiwu, a bridgehead for the BRI, enjoys a unique status for combining key nodes of the Silk Road and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, which lays a solid foundation for the gathering of global commodities in Yiwu and the global development of markets in the city.
◎Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan corridor
The construction planning of the Yiwu-Ningbo-Zhoushan corridor was passed at the 77th executive meeting of Zhejiang provincial government on Dec 5, 2016.
With the support of Zhoushan Port, Yiwu Inland Port, Ningbo-Jinhua Expressway, and Jinhua-Ningbo-Zhoushan Railway, the corridor will develop into a comprehensive traffic hub integrating river, sea, rail, road and airports, and form an unobstructed, convenient and efficient traffic network.
The corridor links Yiwu and Zhoushan Port. Yiwu's small commodities are well known around the world. Zhoushan Port is a top-rated world port. Their integration helps to form a global trade pattern.
◎Yiwu, a national pilot city for comprehensive reform in international trade, enjoys preferential policies
The State Council approved a pilot program on international trade reform in Yiwu, on March 4, 2011, making it the 10th pilot area for comprehensive reforms after Shanghai's Pudong New Area and Tianjin's Binhai New Area, and the first county-level city in the country to have a State-level reform program. Yiwu established a new-type method of market purchase trade. Its value of exports increased 9.6 times from 2011 to 2016. And its method was promoted among and copied by seven Chinese cities, including Haimen in Jiangsu province, Haining in Zhejiang province, and Linyi in Shandong province. In 2017, the government work report of Zhejiang province and documents issued by the National Development and Reform Commission both said clearly that it was required to actively promote the construction of Yiwu international trade reform pilot zone.
Yiwu municipal Party committee and municipal government have issued a series of preferential policies, particularly for projects conducive to industrial transformation, urban improvement and regional development. Yiwu administrative service center unites 50 departments and is able to handle 808 administrative items. The center offers one-stop approval service and its convenient service ranks top in the province. Yiwu also took the lead in the country in building an international trade service center.
◎Jinyi Urban New Area: Building the fourth-largest metropolitan area in Zhejiang
Jinyi Urban New Area in central Zhejiang is at the intersection of the Yangtze River Delta economic area and Haixi Coordination Area. According to the Zhejiang Province Urban System Planning (2010-2020) approved by the State Council, the new area, together with the urban areas of Jinhua and Yiwu, will form an urban agglomeration in central Zhejiang, will become the province's fourth-largest metropolitan area, and will serve as a significant driving force for the social and economic development of central and western Zhejiang.
A recent plan stipulated that the new area will cover 50 square km, and in the future it is expected to be expanded to 275 square km. The future Jinyi Urban New Area (including the urban areas of Jinhua and Yiwu) will develop into a city with a population of 3 to 5 million.
