For Christmas product sellers in Yiwu, the world's largest wholesale market for Christmas ornaments in East China's Zhejiang province, the weak business they experienced because of the recent outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic has passed, and they have been busy preparing new orders.
Over 60 percent of the world's Christmas decorations come from factories surrounding Yiwu every June to September, according to Cai Qinliang, secretary-general of the Industry Association of Christmas Supplies in Yiwu, who also runs a Christmas product factory.
In the Festival Arts subdivision of the Yiwu International Trade Market, over 800 shops selling Christmas ornaments display an array of holiday decorations, from Santa Claus masks to stockings, artificial Christmas trees and metallic-colored tinsel.
Zhu Zhihui, a Christmas product seller, said many of her customers have made orders in advance due to the epidemic. She has stopped accepting new orders to ensure the current ones can be delivered on time.
In recent days, Liu Chuanhua's workshops have been operating day and night to fulfill orders. Despite unstable logistics and rising material costs, over 90 percent of orders are expected to be delivered on time. Liu said their products will fill 52 containers and be sent to countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and Singapore.
From January to July this year, Yiwu exported Christmas-related products worth 1.75 billion yuan ($252 million), a year-on-year increase of 88.5 percent. Among them, exports in July surged 85.6 percent yearly to 850 million yuan, according to data from Yiwu Customs.
