Every year, residents of Heshi village in Shangxi town, Yiwu, become busy during autumn and winter.
Autumn and winter are the best seasons for making Tusuo noodles, a local specialty, as there is less rain. During this time, Wu Suxian, a resident of Heshi village, always starts making noodles before dawn.
"I have been making Tusuo noodles for 35 years. I learned it from my father-in-law. Business is better in the second half of the year,” said Wu.
Tusuo noodles are made mainly by hand. It requires a series of steps and takes more than 10 hours.
Traditional Tusuo noodles originated in Heshi village in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). They are widely used in folk customs because they symbolize longevity and happiness. Tusuo noodles are an important part of every holiday for locals.
According to Wu Jun, an official of Heshi village, the village has developed activities related to researching and making Tusuo noodles, boosting the sales of the noodles and other agricultural products in the village.
