Jiaxing in East China's Zhejiang province is leading the province in balanced rural-urban development, local media reported on May 27.

The per capita disposable income of rural residents in the city in 2020 was ranked first in Zhejiang for the 17th consecutive year. That same year, the income ratio of urban and rural residents in Jiaxing stood at 1.61, the smallest in the province.

"Rural life in Jiaxing is now admired by urban residents," said Yu Weijun, a villager from Xinmin village in Nanhu district who enjoys a stable income and lives in a village with comprehensive amenities.

Jiaxing's natural environment and river management won provincial recognition in 2020, attaining the highest honor in Zhejiang.

In addition, Jiaxing is now home to more than 6,000 companies above designated size and its service industry has also experienced rapid development.

"The city boasts good industrial agglomeration, advantageous geographical location, and more importantly, many development opportunities," said Yang Zhaoming, head of Jiaxing-based Zhejiang Xinhui Technology Co Ltd.

As the permanent site of the annual World Internet Conference, the Tongxiang government has been piloting digital transformation in natural environment management and has launched the first law enforcement and supervision system in Zhejiang for pollution discharge.
