The first new energy water buses in the country started operations in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on June 29, local media reported.

The five water buses include four service boats and one rescue boat, all of which feature novel appearances and produce zero emissions.

The traditional Chinese style Jiushui No 1 and No 2 look like mobile tea houses with slender bodies and spacious decks.

The Jiushui No 3 and No 4 have bows that are shaped like a bird's head and their futuristic bodies look like a spaceship.

Since Jiaxing launched the first two water bus routes in September 2020, these vehicles have traveled 85,000 kilometers and transported 179,000 passengers, with the average daily passenger flow being 660.

Jiaxing is set to launch the third water bus route running between Jindu Jingyuan wharf and Muhu Lake Park wharf on June 30. The plan is to have 11 water bus routes by 2025.
