Eighteen lightweight new energy buses made from carbon fibre composite were delivered to Jiaxing Communication Investment Group Co Ltd in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 31, local media reported.
In response to the national call for energy conservation and emission reduction, Jiaxing Communication Investment Group Co Ltd purchased the buses from a local research institute.
Carbon fibre composite is a kind of new material that is lighter than aluminium magnesium alloy, but tougher than steel. Widely used in the aviation industry, the material's application in vehicles is expected to reduce their weight and energy consumption, as well as enhance the bus' body strength.
Therefore, the newly-purchased buses are more energy-efficient, economical, safe, and comfortable. They also boast a long service life and anti-corrosion properties.
The 18 buses will save 2.7 million kilowatts of electricity, cut 3.32 million metric tons of coal use, as well as save 220,000 yuan ($34,000) to 300,000 yuan of operating costs in eight years.
