Longquan and Yiwu forge land port express to global markets

Workers loaded local goods at Longquan Smart Logistics Port in Lishui on Dec 7. The shipment soon departed for a distribution warehouse in Yiwu, a county-level city in Jinahua, Zhejiang province, accessing its global logistics network.

Longquan, located at the junction of Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangxi, lies hundreds of kilometers from the nearest seaport. Historically, exporting local goods involved multiple logistics stages, taking five to seven days longer than from coastal areas, with logistics costs reaching 18 percent to 25 percent of product value.

To address this challenge, Longquan has actively collaborated with the Yiwu International Land Port Group to establish the Longquan-Yiwu Land Port Express Channel.

This model relies on efficient coordination between a local front warehouse in Longquan and a distribution warehouse in Yiwu. Export goods are consolidated and cleared at the front warehouse, then shipped via dedicated trucks twice daily to Yiwu.

There, shipments are transferred to sea freight, the Yiwu-Europe railway, or the Transport International Router system for global delivery.

Since its launch in October 2023, the channel has handled over 2,400 truck trips, transporting 59,800 metric tons of goods. Transit and clearance times have been reduced by more than three days on average.

Overall, the model has cut logistics costs for Longquan exporters by about 15 percent, shortened delivery cycles for key products like auto parts and bamboo goods by 45 percent, and increased on-time delivery reliability to Ningbo Port to over 95 percent.

In the first half of this year, Longquan's export value surged 59.4 percent year-on-year, ranking 4th among 90 counties in Zhejiang.

The benefits extend beyond Longquan. The channel now serves 23 collection points in neighboring counties, reducing regional logistics costs by about 12 percent.

Yiwu has also contributed by training local logistics personnel and introducing standardized practices, which have significantly reduced cargo damage and customer complaints. The cooperation represents a win-win outcome, upgrading mountain logistics while expanding Yiwu's supply hinterland.
