The Chinese edition of the Transcripts of the Proceedings of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East was released at Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages in Shaoxing on June 20.

The book was sponsored by the National Publication Foundation, translated by Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages, and published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The book contains 15 volumes and about 7.5 million Chinese characters. It records the proceeding transcripts from Dec 10, 1946 to Oct 14, 1947. It is the first time this part of the transcripts have been published in Mandarin.

The International Military Tribunal for the Far East, established by the Allies after World War II, started trying 28 Japanese military and government officials for war crimes in Tokyo on May 3, 1946.

The trials convened 11 justices from 11 countries and lasted for about two and a half years until November in 1948. During the trials, 419 witnesses attended and over 4300 pieces of evidence were admitted.

"The book tells the truth about the Tokyo Trials, popularizes the history of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), and will help strengthen patriotism education," said Ye Xingguo, vice-president of Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages.

This year marks the 90th anniversary of the September 18th Incident.
