The ongoing UEFA Euro 2020 Championship, or Euro 2020, which kicked off on June 12, has not only ignited Shaoxing football fans' enthusiasm, but also the city's nighttime economy.

"More and more fans like me are coming to bars or roadside restaurants at night to watch the games. For one, we do not want to interrupt family members. Also, it's more exciting to enjoy the game with others," said Zhang Lan, a resident living in Yuecheng district.

The Clumsy Brothers' Crayfish, a restaurant on Shanxi Road, has set up a giant digital screen for diners. "Crayfish, barbecue, beer, and a group of best friends make the ultimate game-watching experience. It's our ingredients for doing business," said Zhu Xiaotian, owner of the restaurant.

Zhu added that he sells over 400 kilograms of crayfish every day. The number has doubled compared with sales of the same period last year. According to Alibaba's take-out and delivery platform Eleme, orders between midnight and 8:00 am has grown by 20 percent month-on-month since Euro 2020 began.

Shaoxing is known as a city of sports. The city hosted the 2020-2021 season of the Chinese Basketball Association league. In a recent report by the Shanghai-based Warton Economic Institute, Shaoxing residents' annual consumption in the sports industry averaged 2,574.93 yuan ($398.34) last year.
