Five Shaoxing athletes to compete at Tokyo 2020

Five athletes from Shaoxing, Zhejiang province will represent China at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, which will open on July 23.

Xie Zhenye, who was born in August 1993, will sprint at three events, including the men's 100 meters, men's 200m, and the men's 4x100m relay.

Xie became the first Chinese sprinter to reach the final of the men's 200m at the World Championships, following his seventh place finish at the 2019 edition in Doha, Qatar.

Wu Qingfeng, who was born in January 2003, will swim in the women's 50m freestyle and women's 100m freestyle on July 30 and July 28 respectively.

She began the sport during her first year in primary school and was named an Elite Athlete of International Class by the General Administration of Sport of China.

Wan Jiyuan, who was born in July 2002, will be part of China's 3x3 women's basketball team, who will play in the preliminary rounds from July 24 to 27.

In 2018, she was named an Elite Athlete of National Class by the General Administration of Sport of China.

He Junyi, who was born in August 1997, will swim in the men's 100m freestyle on July 27.

He swam long distance early in his career, but almost quit swimming because he was unhappy with his results and felt that he was not getting any advantage from his height.

Liu Xiaoqian, who was born in February 1996, will play for China's rugby sevens women's team in Pool C from July 29 to 30.

She began training for athletics during her fourth year in primary school and switched to rugby during high school. In 2013, she was named an Elite Athlete of National Class by the General Administration of Sport of China.
