The 16th World Congress of Accounting Historians was held at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in Wuhan on June 27, marking the first time this prestigious international academic conference took place in China.

With the theme "Accounting, Science and Technology, and Human Civilization," the event attracted over 300 experts, scholars, and representatives from universities and research institutions worldwide, including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, and Japan.

The conference showcased the achievements of Chinese accounting culture and shared research findings in accounting history, while also exploring the future of accounting.

Professor Yang Zhijie from Shaoxing University highlighted the spirit of Yu the Great, presenting historical evidence of Yu as both a flood control hero and a pioneer of accounting.

About 4,000 years ago, legendary ruler Yu the Great summoned all the dukes and princes to Shaoxing's Kuaiji Mountain and evaluated their performance by auditing regional statistics related to tributes and taxation. This gathering in Shaoxing is considered the earliest conference on accounting and finance in China's history.

The name Kuaiji Mountain is a homophone of the Chinese word for accounting (kuai ji, 会计), suggesting a deep historical connection between Shaoxing and accounting culture.
