The 2024 Shangyu International Celadon Cultural Maker Conference opened in Shangyu district, Shaoxing, on Aug 12.

The event brought together artists and designers from China, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia to discuss the innovative development of celadon.

Shangyu, with its rich history and culture, is the birthplace of Yue kiln celadon and is home to over 400 ancient kiln sites.

The conference features activities like the Asian Ceramic Art Invitational Exhibition. Participants are invited to experience the entire celadon creation process, from soil selection to final product, while also exploring modern technologies like digital modeling, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping.

Shangyu is promoting the preservation and innovation of celadon by collaborating with institutions like Jingdezhen Ceramic University and introducing policies to support new business models, such as celadon-themed homestays and immersive role-playing games.

At the opening ceremony, the ceramic art education bases of South Korea's Dankook University and Hannam University were officially established.
