Shaoxing's urban rail transit system is accelerating its development, with the second phase of the city's metro construction plan in full swing, Tide News reported on Aug 19.

The second phase of Metro Line 2 is in construction, while design work for the first phase of Line 4 has begun, and approvals and bidding for preliminary work on the first phase of Line 5 are progressing rapidly.

The city began planning its urban rail network as early as 2011.

On June 28, 2021, Shaoxing's Metro Line 1 began operations. Since then, the metro system has expanded annually, with the opening of Line 1's main line, the first phase of Line 2, and the Line 1 branch (Huangjiu Small Town to Daqingsi).

According to statistics of Shaoxing Rail Transit Group, the metro network now spans 61.2 kilometers, with 38 stations, and has transported over 93 million passengers to date.
