Black Myth: Wukong boosts esports hotel bookings

After the official release of the game Black Myth: Wukong on Aug 20, sales of related products and industries are surging, particularly esports hotels that offer an optimal gaming experience.

Statistics show that by the evening of Aug 20, the game had sold over 4.5 million copies across all platforms, generating more than 1.5 billion yuan ($210 million) in total sales. The number of active players on Steam once peaked at 2 million.

According to data from Ctrip, a Chinese travel platform, esports hotel rooms were fully booked nationwide on the night of Aug 20, especially those near campuses.

"Over 70 percent of esports hotels on our platform are urgently downloading Black Myth: Wukong as guests specifically request this game. The high-end equipment in esports rooms provides a smoother gaming experience, attracting groups of gaming enthusiasts," a Ctrip employee said.

As of 7 pm on Aug 20, searches for esports rooms had increased by 40 percent compared to the previous day. Nearly 70 percent of esports hotel guests during the summer vacation were youngsters born in the 90s or 2000s.

Players estimate that completing Black Myth: Wukong takes approximately 50-80 hours, which means playing non-stop for about three days. Consequently, finishing the game in an esports hotel could cost at least 1,000 yuan, with higher-end options rivaling the price of a new PlayStation 5 console.
