Zhoushan, Zhejiang province is experiencing a significant surge in its fishery industry, achieving an output value of 100 billion yuan ($13.81 billion) in 2023 and 28.69 billion yuan in the first quarter of this year, according to authorities.

This robust growth can be largely attributable to a raft of measures implemented by authorities, including introducing intelligent processing equipment, developing the marine biomedicine industry, and promoting digital transformation.

In the mackerel processing workshop of Zhejiang Xingye Seafood Group, the new automated fish processing and production line streamlines 17 to 18 procedures, including deboning, sorting, cleaning, and packaging, increasing the workshop's output by 30 percent.

Zhoushan is continuously enhancing the development of marine bioactive substances and intensifying research on natural fish oil, marine peptides, and other health-related substances. By the end of 2025, the output value of the marine bio-pharmaceutical industry is expected to reach 2.7 billion yuan.

Authorities have also established a platform for the pelagic fishery industry to support the digital transformation of the seafood market and strengthen the fishery industrial chain.

The city has established a complete fishery industrial chain that covers advanced processing, modern businesses, and fishing and leisure tourism.
