Shengsi excels in providing centralized care for impoverished elderly individuals

Updated : 2024-06-03 (chinadaily.com.cn)

A total of 38 impoverished elderly individuals from Shengsi county, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province have recently been relocated to the Shengsi County Central Welfare Home.

Previously scattered across five different elderly care facilities, these individuals are now enjoying the advantages of centralized care.

Yao Wenli is among the first group of elderly individuals benefiting from the new care policy. He notes that life here is good — the food is good, the accommodation is good, and the caregivers take good care of him.

Though individuals like Yao may be few in number, they face significant challenges in securing their livelihoods. Centralized care not only ensures that disabled elderly individuals receive quality care services but also helps in reducing overall care costs, explained a staff member of the welfare home.

Shengsi has in recent years been dedicated to the goal of common prosperity and high-quality elderly care services on its islands, continuously reinforcing the responsibility of the government in providing basic support and pioneering a new model of centralized care for the most vulnerable.

"Authorities are devoted to enhancing the operational standards of elderly care facilities on small islands, guiding elderly residents of remote islands to centralized care facilities on larger islands, and innovating institutional mechanisms to elevate the level of integrated care," explained a representative from the Shengsi Civil Affairs Bureau.
