In Maoshan village, Putuo district, Zhoushan, Zhejiang province, the narcissus bulbs have matured and are ready for harvest.

The cultivation of these narcissus bulbs is a lengthy process, involving multiple planting stages before they develop into large, marketable bulbs with numerous flower buds. After harvesting and storage, the bulbs must undergo specific treatments, including temperature and light regulation, before they are ready to sell.

The Putuo narcissus, the city flower of Zhoushan, is primarily grown in Taohua town, which has established a professional narcissus cooperative, built a modern agricultural industrial park for the narcissus, and offered training in narcissus carving.

The number of narcissus growers in the town has increased from 11 to 24, with the planting area expanding to 250 mu (16.67 hectares). Last year, the town produced approximately 800,000 marketable narcissus bulbs, with a total output value of 3.5 million yuan ($481,578).

The yellow narcissus, known for its bright color, strong fragrance, long blooming period, and multiple stems, is particularly popular on the market. Carved narcissus fetch even higher prices, with last year's carved white narcissus selling for 120 yuan per pot.

This year's harvest boasts a high yield, large bulb size, and excellent quality, with an expected total output value increase of 10 percent compared to last year.

The town plans to collaborate with professional research institutions to continuously develop high-quality agricultural products, helping family farms and professional cooperatives create flagship products.

Additionally, the town is developing a Narcissus Fairy Tale World, with the main building expected to be completed by November this year.
