Jinchang, a city in Gansu province historically renowned for its nickel production, unveiled its remarkable transformation achievements at a news conference on July 28. The city has established a "2+4+N" modern industrial system, setting a new standard for diversified economic development.

Recent data indicates that Jinchang's "2+4+N" modern industrial system achieved an output of over 250 billion yuan ($37.01 billion) in 2025, quadrupling previous figures, with projections to surpass 300 billion yuan by 2026.

The city has achieved significant reductions in energy consumption per GDP unit by 35.2 percent and carbon emissions by 39.7 percent, maintaining double-digit economic growth with an annual energy increase of just 3.6 percent.

Jinchang has established two key industrial clusters: one for non-ferrous new materials and another for new energy and batteries. Additionally, emerging sectors such as modern services and the low-altitude economy are being developed as potential future growth drivers.

Technological innovation is central to Jinchang's success, with over 100 national and provincial sci-tech projects and nearly 1,000 municipal tech plans implemented. The city has achieved breakthroughs in lithium cathode materials and domestic production of key metal components.

Benefiting from strategic platforms and policies, Jinchang leads the Jinchang-Baiyin-Lanzhou-Wuwei National Advanced Manufacturing Cluster, contributing over 65 percent to the economy.

Looking ahead, Jinchang plans to strengthen its industrial base and explore new sectors, enhancing its position as a modernized "Nickel Capital" in China.
