Before all of winter's charm disappears, take one last look at the gorgeous scenery on these mountains adorned with rime-covered trees in Sunan Yugur autonomous county, Zhangye, in Northwest China's Gansu province.
Early in the morning on March 27, Sunan county witnessed a mesmerizing spectacle of rime, transforming trees into delicate jewels and creating a unique landscape. Every spring, rime scenes appear several times in Sunan county under the Qilian Mountains, influenced by cold and warm air.
Rime, commonly known as tree hanging, is a special type of frost resembling granular tufts of ice. It only appears under certain temperature and humidity conditions, such as when warm water vapor from a river meets cold air above, creating beautiful rime formations on nearby trees.
