On 8 June 2023, SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming met with UN Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs Miroslav Jenca on the sidelines of the Astana International Forum in Kazakhstan.

The meeting participants jointly agreed on the further improvement of interaction between the two organisations, and discussed a plan for consultations between their secretariats, as well as prospects for the signing of documents on cooperation between the SCO and other UN specialised agencies, the joint holding of high-level events, and other isues. They also exchanged opinions on Afghanistan.
