A delegation led by Joseph Borich, former US consul general in Shanghai, visited Zhanjiang on May 17 and gave some tips to local residents about how to get US visas more easily.

Wen Tianlun, vice-chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China, said that though he has left Zhanjiang for over 30 years, he still has deep affection for his hometown.

"In the past, it was not easy for Chinese people who want to go to America to apply for a visa. Nowadays, China has become a strong economic powerhouse in the world and US has opened its doors to China," he added.

Wen expressed his joy to see progressive change in Zhanjiang in recent years. He hoped that more and more Zhanjiang locals would seek business opportunities in the US.

A 10-year US visa for Chinese citizens first introduced in Nov 2014 provides convenience for visitors.

Chinese citizens can now apply for multiple-entry business and tourist visas with a maximum validity of ten years.
