The folk art of Leizhou Peninsula will be spotlighted in the 2020 Chinese Spring Festival Gala to be broadcast live by China Central Television (CCTV) on Jan 24 (New Year's Eve).
Hundreds of Zhanjiang performers gathered for training in mid-December in 2019, and went to the gala's Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area sub-venue for rehearsal on Jan 10. The parallel session will be staged at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge's White Dolphin Island (western artificial island) for the first time.
Since its launch in 1983, the CCTV Spring Festival Gala has been a national tradition to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year. It features a wide variety of shows, including songs, dances, acrobatics, comic sketches and crosstalks brought by domestically well-known artists and actors.
The show is now the most-watched TV program in the world with the most performers and longest duration. This year, it will be broadcast live in over 170 countries, and use the latest technologies such as LED displays, virtual reality and UltraHD, as well as 4K.
