Since March 11, Nanning residents have been able to pay medical bills with their electronic social security cards in 230 local designated medical institutions. The service will be introduced in all designated medical institutions throughout the city by April 15.

Locals can apply for an electronic social security card using any of four apps: the Nanning Intelligent Human Resources and Social Security app, the Love Nanning app, Alipay app, and the Bank of China app. This will allow them to pay medical expenses by simply displaying a QR code.

Nanning is listed among the country's first set of pilot cities for electronic social security cards. It issued the first electronic social security cards in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region last August, and people have been allowed to make payments with them at drug stores since January.
