Guangxi Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants was founded in 1959 and covers an area of 202 hectares. As a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture publicity and education base, as well as a national 4A-level tourist scenic spot, it shoulders the responsibility of spreading TCM culture.

Guangxi Botanical Garden of Medicinal Plants is dedicated to the collection and protection of medicinal resources. It has built a medicinal resource protection platform and has formed a world-leading conservation system of medicinal plant resources. Since its establishment, the Garden has preserved 10,021 species of medicinal plants and 200,000 exsiccata, including nearly 8,000 living plants, 7,000 copies of seeds, 650 species in vitro, and 1,385 copies of genes. In 2011, it was certified as the "largest medicinal botanical garden" by Guinness in terms of the quantity and area of medicinal plant species preserved.

The Garden has set up several exhibition areas, covering Guangxi specialty medicine, woody plants, liana plants, shade plants, Chinese Zingiberaceae, tropical plants, and medicinal animals.
