The joint meeting of directors of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs between Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in China and four provinces near the border in Vietnam was recently held in Nanning, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, strengthening agricultural cooperation between China and Vietnam.

Agricultural cooperation between Guangxi and Vietnam has continued to expand in recent years. From January to November 2024, total trade in agricultural products between Guangxi and Vietnam reached 18.37 billion yuan ($2.51 billion), with Vietnam remaining Guangxi's largest trading partner for the 26th year in a row.

Guangxi is a major agricultural province in China, with the total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery industries ranking among the top 10 in China for many years. The production of sugarcane, fruits, silkworms, jasmine flowers, and other crops in Guangxi has consistently ranked first nationwide.

In recent years, Guangxi has been actively engaging in agricultural technology and talent cooperation with Vietnam, strengthening cooperation in the research and development of germplasm resources, key technologies for crop cultivation, prevention and control of animal and plant diseases, and the research and development of equipment and supporting machinery, forming a mutually beneficial and jointly developed mechanism for the exchange of scientific and technological talent.

Additionally, Guangxi is creating a national-level agricultural opening-up and cooperation pilot zone in the city of Chongzuo, accelerating the development of a new cross-border agricultural industry chain.
