Eco-friendly chicken farming boosts local economy
The Qingyuan free-range chicken from the under-forest farming demonstration base in Bading village, Bama Yao autonomous county, were recently brought to market.
The demonstration base, situated on 220 mu (15 hectares) of forest land, features 14 chicken coops. The chickens are raised in a free-range environment, foraging daily in the forest, which results in tender and flavorful meat that is highly favored by consumers.
The base operates under a unique model in which company, base, village collective economy, and impoverished households are combined, benefiting 120 households in 12 nearby villages. This model generates over 40,000 yuan ($5,461) annually in dividends for the village collective, significantly contributing to rural vitalization.
Bama town plans to continue supporting eco-friendly under-forest farming and promoting cooperative farming efforts in 2025. Through financial assistance and policy incentives, new opportunities will be created to further develop and expand the village collective economy.
