At the invitation of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Kövér László, speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, and his delegation visited China from Nov 5 to 12.

From Nov 10 to 11, the delegation visited Guangzhou, where they toured Yunxi Botanical Park to learn about urbanization and ecological protection efforts. The visit aimed to foster deeper and closer cooperation between Hungary and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary. Earlier this year, during Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to China, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.

On June 27, 2024, Guangzhou launched a new direct flight to Budapest, making it the fifth Chinese city with direct flights to Hungary. This development has led to an increase in personnel exchanges and economic and trade interactions.

China is Hungary's largest trading partner outside Europe, while Hungary is one of China's most important trading partners in Central and Eastern Europe. In 2023, bilateral trade reached $14.52 billion, with China's exports to Hungary amounting to $9.79 billion and imports from Hungary totaling $4.73 billion.

The visit is significant in deepening bilateral relations, with Hungary seeking to enhance cooperation with the Greater Bay Area, a high-tech hub in China, in the fields of science, technology, culture, and trade.
