Construction started on a key industrial project, the Weiteng Derun Big Data and New Energy Application Research and Development Center in the Guangzhou Rail Transit Equipment Industrial Park in Guangdong province on July 5.

This project aims to provide tech services powered by big data and cloud computing for the integration, operation, testing and certification of the region’s rail transit systems, accelerate the construction of a rail transit equipment and advanced manufacturing industry base in the park, and boost the agglomeration of high-end rail transit industries in the city’s Baiyun district.

With total investment of 1.35 billion yuan ($212 million), the center has a floor space of 32,633 square meters and a construction area of 69,500 square meters, including a 9,500-square-meter research and development center and a 60,000-square-meter data center. After two years of construction, it will become an energy-saving data center demonstration project and is expected to achieve an annual output of 750 million yuan after going into operation.

The center is subordinate to Guangzhou Weiteng Derun Cloud Computing Co Ltd. The company has completed the construction and operation of a 100,000-square-meter data center, and established a sound team for R&D, operation, sales and customer services. With rich experience in the construction of internet data center and other online interaction platforms, it specializes in the design, construction, operation, maintenance and value-added services of IDC as a leading service provider in China with internet application and cloud computing as its core businesses.

The project is based in the Guangzhou Rail Transit Equipment Industrial Park, northwest of Baiyun district, 3 km from the Guangzhou North Railway Station and 11 km from the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. It is one of eight industrial parks in Baiyun and an important carrier for the development of a rail transit industrial cluster in the district.

Leading industries in the park include rail transit equipment manufacturing, new energy and environmental equipment manufacturing and intelligent and energy-saving electrical appliance production.

At present, there are nine key industrial projects in the park, and seven of them including the Baiyun High-tech Rail Transit Industrial Base and the Healthy and Smart Home Innovation Center and Headquarters Base are under application and preliminary construction preparations. Guangzhou Yima Auto Parts Co Ltd has topped out phase I and phase II of its establishment.  Phase III of the project is under construction and will be completed and inspected by the end of this year.
